The earthquake, which occurred at 5:11 AM local time, was centered in the waters 58 kilometers west of Sines, placing it about 7.7 kilometers southeast of Lisbon and roughly 74 kilometers southwest of Setúbal. According to the Portuguese Sea and Atmosphere Institute (IPMA), the quake struck at a depth of 21 kilometers.
The tremor was felt widely across the region, with reports indicating that the shakes were noticeable not only in Lisbon, Sines, and Setúbal but also as far afield as Porto, Spain, and even Morocco.
