Steam Deck

The Steam Deck, running on SteamOS and featuring a base resolution of 1200x800, is surprisingly capable. The benchmark, which excludes the game's combat scenes, shows that the Steam Deck can handle the game with reasonable performance. With the quality preset on low, it averages around 54 FPS, dipping to a minimum of 38 FPS. When AMD’s Frame Generation technology is enabled, performance improves significantly, hitting an average of 79 FPS with a minimum of 61 FPS at low settings. Even at medium settings, the frame rates remain playable, though slightly lower with Frame Generation off.

ASUS ROG Ally Z1

The ASUS ROG Ally Z1, equipped with the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme SoC, performs admirably at its native 1920x1080 resolution. At low settings and with Frame Generation turned off, it achieves an average of 60 FPS and a minimum of 38 FPS. Activating Frame Generation boosts this to an average of 86 FPS with a minimum of 59 FPS, showcasing the device's strength in handling high-resolution graphics. Medium settings see a drop in performance, but with Frame Generation on, it maintains a solid 65 FPS average.

Lenovo Legion GO

The Lenovo Legion GO, with its higher resolution of 2560x1600, initially raised concerns about whether it could deliver playable frame rates. However, the benchmark results are quite impressive. At its native resolution and low settings, it averages 52 FPS with a minimum of 30 FPS without Frame Generation. Enabling Frame Generation improves these numbers to an average of 66 FPS and a minimum of 56 FPS. Even at medium settings, the Legion GO manages to stay above playable thresholds, achieving an average of 54 FPS with Frame Generation on.

In summary, all three devices—the Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Ally, and Lenovo Legion GO—demonstrate their capability to run Black Myth: Wukong with playable frame rates. While the benchmark tool does not simulate the game’s combat scenarios, which are expected to be much more demanding, the initial results are promising. As always, real-world performance might vary, especially when the game is fully released and tested in actual gaming conditions. For now, it’s clear that these handhelds have a lot to offer, and fans of Black Myth: Wukong should be able to enjoy the game on their preferred portable device.
