Dodgers’ $325 Million Star Yamamoto to Begin Rehab Assignment After Long Absence
Big news for Dodgers fans: Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the team’s prized $325 million ace, is set to make his return to the field after a significant hiatus. Starting Wednesday, Yamamoto will take the first step in his rehabilitation process with a rehab assignment for Triple-A Oklahoma City. This marks his first game action since he was sidelined by a triceps injury on June 15.
The 26-year-old right-hander has been out of commission since mid-June due to tightness in his triceps, an issue that flared up during a game against the Kansas City Royals. Yamamoto initially felt some discomfort during his warm-up but believed it wasn’t severe enough to warrant concern. However, as he continued pitching, the pain intensified, leading to his eventual removal from the game.

Before his injury, Yamamoto was making a significant impact on the Dodgers’ rotation. His performance was a key reason behind the Dodgers’ massive 12-year, $325 million investment in him. Over his 14 starts prior to the injury, Yamamoto posted an impressive 2.92 ERA and a striking 4.94 strikeout-to-walk ratio, underlining why he was considered one of the top pitchers globally even before his MLB debut.
The timing of Yamamoto’s rehab assignment is critical for the Dodgers, who have been hit hard by injuries throughout the season. With stars like Tyler Glasnow, Tony Gonsolin, Dustin May, Emmet Sheehan, River Ryan, and top prospect Nick Frasso all out of action, the team has struggled with depth. Yet, despite these setbacks, veteran arms like Clayton Kershaw and Walker Buehler have made their returns over the summer, albeit with mixed results.
As of Wednesday, the Dodgers hold a solid 78-54 record, maintaining a three-game lead in the National League West over the Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres. Yamamoto’s return could prove crucial as the Dodgers push towards the postseason, seeking to bolster their rotation and fortify their chances in a competitive division.
With Yamamoto’s rehab assignment, fans are eagerly anticipating his full comeback and hoping for him to regain the form that made him one of the most sought-after pitchers in the sport. The Dodgers’ rotation is poised to benefit greatly from his return, adding much-needed strength as they head into the final stretch of the season.
