K-Pop Star Taeil Departs NCT Amid Serious Accusation
In a shocking turn of events, Taeil, a prominent member of the globally renowned K-pop group NCT, has officially left the band following allegations of a serious sexual crime. The announcement, made by his management agency, SM Entertainment, has sent ripples through the K-pop community and beyond.
Taeil, whose full name is Moon Tae-il, was an integral part of NCT, particularly active in the subunit NCT 127. The 30-year-old artist had been a staple in the group since its inception, contributing to the band’s unique blend of experimental music that spans genres such as pop, R&B, and hip-hop. NCT has been a major force in the international music scene, gaining substantial recognition with several releases charting on Billboard.

The news broke on August 28, 2024, when SM Entertainment released a statement on their social media platforms. The statement disclosed that Taeil was accused in a criminal case involving a sexual offense. While the specifics of the accusation remain undisclosed, the gravity of the situation led to a swift decision by the agency. They stated that after careful consideration of the seriousness of the issue, it was determined that Taeil could no longer continue his activities with NCT. The decision was made in consultation with Taeil, and he has since withdrawn from the group.
As of now, Taeil is fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation, though he has yet to make any public comment regarding the allegations. The police, too, have remained tight-lipped, with the Bangbae Police Station in Seoul confirming only that an investigation is underway.
This development marks a significant and unfortunate chapter in NCT’s history. Taeil's departure follows a difficult year for the artist, who had recently been on a hiatus due to a severe motorcycle accident in August 2023. The accident required surgery and a prolonged period of recovery, which kept him away from the group’s activities for some time. Despite his efforts to return, including the release of NCT 127’s sixth studio album "WALK" in July 2024, this recent accusation has abruptly halted his career.
The incident also comes at a time when the K-pop industry is increasingly under scrutiny. Just two months prior, two other NCT 127 members, Johnny and Haechan, were embroiled in an online scandal, though SM Entertainment strongly denied those allegations and threatened legal action against the spread of such rumors.
As fans and the public await further updates, the situation remains tense. SM Entertainment has promised to release additional statements as the investigation progresses. Meanwhile, the future of NCT and its members hangs in the balance, with the departure of one of its key figures casting a shadow over the group’s ongoing and future endeavors.
