The much-anticipated Mahindra Thar Roxx SUV has officially made its debut in India, marking a significant evolution from its 3-door predecessor. Priced starting at Rs. 12.99 lakh for the base petrol variant and Rs. 13.99 lakh for the diesel model, the Thar Roxx promises to captivate enthusiasts with its enhanced features and robust design.
Building on the legacy of the Thar series, the Roxx introduces a 5-door configuration that aims to offer improved practicality and a broader appeal. Its design diverges significantly from earlier models, featuring a distinctive triangular rear quarter glass and a slanted roof that have generated mixed reactions online. The new alloy wheel design and squarer wheel arches contrast with the previous model’s rounded features, giving the Thar Roxx a unique and bold look.
Under the hood, the Thar Roxx offers two engine choices: a 2.0L turbo-petrol engine available in 160 Hp and 170 Hp variants, and a 2.2L turbo-diesel engine with outputs of 132 Hp and 171 Hp. Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic, catering to various driving preferences.
The off-road capabilities of the Thar Roxx are also impressive. It boasts advanced suspension with Scorpio-N-derived FSD shock absorbers and a penta-link rear setup. The SUV includes an electronic brake-locking differential at the front, a mechanically locking rear differential, and a low-ratio transfer case. With an approach angle of 41.3 degrees, a breakover angle of 23.6 degrees, and a departure angle of 36.1 degrees, the Thar Roxx is well-equipped for challenging terrains. Additionally, its water-wading depth of 650 mm enhances its off-road prowess.
While the Thar Roxx is set to compete with models like the Maruti Suzuki Jimny, it stands out in its segment with a unique blend of ruggedness and sophistication. As Mahindra continues to innovate, the Thar Roxx is poised to be a key player in the SUV market, reflecting the ultimate in design evolution and off-road capability.
