I want to share some deeply sad news about Lazar Dukic, a 28-year-old CrossFit Games athlete from Serbia. Tragically, Lazar passed away during the swimming portion of the 2024 CrossFit Games held in Fort Worth, Texas. This incident occurred on Thursday during what was supposed to be a challenging but exhilarating event, featuring a 3.5-mile run followed by an 800-meter swim at Marine Creek Lake.

According to reports, Lazar was last seen participating in the swim but did not complete the event. Authorities launched a search-and-rescue operation around 8 a.m. when he was reported missing, and his body was later recovered from the lake about an hour after the search began. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner confirmed Lazar's€™s death at 10:24 a.m. on the same day.

CrossFit CEO Don Faul has stated that the organization had a safety plan in place, with safety personnel present on-site. He expressed deep sorrow over the incident, emphasizing that the well-being of competitors is a top priority. The remainder of Thursday's€™s events were canceled, and there is uncertainty about whether the rest of the competition will proceed as planned.

Lazar Đukić was a dedicated athlete who had competed in the CrossFit Games for four consecutive years. He had a strong track record, including winning the 2024 Europe Semifinal and ranking third in Serbia. His goal for this year was to reach the podium, and he had been training alongside his brother, Luka, who was also competing.

This sudden and tragic event has sent shockwaves through the CrossFit community, with many mourning the loss of someone known for his kindness, humor, and supportive nature. His sponsors have set up a GoFundMe page to support his family during this difficult time.

Our thoughts are with Lazar's family, friends, and the CrossFit community as they navigate this heartbreaking situation.
