8-Year-Old Ohio Girl Drives Family SUV to Target on a Solo Shopping Trip
In an unexpected and rather startling event, an 8-year-old girl from Ohio managed to drive her family's SUV on a solo trip to Target. The incident took place when the young girl, who had been reported missing earlier that morning, was last seen by her family around 7 a.m. According to reports, a neighbor’s security camera captured footage of the girl getting into the family’s 2020 Nissan Rogue and driving off alone.
The girl's journey spanned approximately 13 miles (21 kilometers) from her home in Bedford to a Target store in Bainbridge, Ohio. Police were first alerted when concerned citizens reported seeing a child driving a vehicle, swerving erratically along the road. Initially, the vehicle couldn't be located, but a short time later, officers found the SUV parked at the Target store, where they also located the girl inside.

The police investigation revealed that the child had struck a mailbox while navigating the SUV but appeared to be otherwise unharmed. At the time of her discovery, the young girl was casually walking around the store with over $400 in cash. Target employees stated that she was shopping for various items before being approached by law enforcement. When the police found her, she was enjoying a frappuccino, and the officers allowed her to finish her drink, stating in a lighthearted tone, "We're not mean," according to a Facebook post shared by the Bedford Police Department.
Although it remains unclear what prompted the girl to take the vehicle and head to Target, authorities confirmed that she was too young to face criminal charges. The situation remains under investigation to determine if any other actions will be taken.
This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the potential risks associated with leaving vehicles accessible to young children. It also raises awareness about the importance of vigilance and quick response by community members and authorities in such situations. Fortunately, the girl was found unharmed, and the situation ended without further complications.
