A Utah Mother's Heartbreaking Journey Amid Terminal Cancer Diagnosis
In a heart-wrenching story from Utah, Erika Diarte-Carr, a 33-year-old mother of two, is confronting an unimaginable reality after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis. Her life took a devastating turn when she entered the emergency room for what she thought was a minor shoulder injury in May 2022. Instead, she learned that she was suffering from Stage 4 small cell lung carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Three months to make the best of what time I have left.” The emotional toll of planning her own funeral has been an unfathomable burden. Without financial resources or life insurance to cover her funeral expenses, she launched a fundraising campaign with an initial goal of $5,000. The response has been overwhelming; her campaign has raised over $840,000, allowing her not only to cover her funeral costs but also to set up a trust fund for her children. “I can leave behind something for them and ensure they are going to be okay as they grow up,” she wrote, expressing her gratitude to everyone who contributed.
Amid her struggles, Erika emphasized that her children are her motivation. “My children are my whole life, light, and soul. They are my fight and what keep me going,” she stated.
