Bangladesh's Fiery Throw Hits Indian Pacer Akash Deep in Heated Test Clash
During the intense second day of the first Test between India and Bangladesh in Chennai, a dramatic moment unfolded when Indian pacer Akash Deep became the latest target of Bangladesh's aggressive fielding. After Rishabh Pant expressed frustration on day one due to a misdirected throw that nearly hit him, it was Akash Deep's turn to find himself at the center of the action, and this time, the throw actually made contact.
As Akash Deep was running back to his crease, Bangladesh's Hasan Mahmud attempted a direct hit, only for the ball to strike Akash squarely in the back. Although he was well inside the crease and the throw appeared unnecessary, the impact was enough to halt play briefly, as everyone ensured that Akash wasn’t seriously injured. Thankfully, after a short delay, the pacer was cleared to continue, and the game resumed. However, the incident seemed to break Akash’s concentration, and he was dismissed shortly after by Taskin Ahmed while trying to hit a big shot, caught at mid-off by Najmul Shanto.

This moment mirrored a similar occurrence on the first day when a throw aimed at the stumps narrowly missed Rishabh Pant. The fiery Indian wicketkeeper, known for his passionate approach, exchanged a few words with Bangladesh’s wicketkeeper Litton Das, as Pant was visibly annoyed, asking, "Mere ko kyu maar rahe ho?" (Why are you hitting me?), to which Das coolly responded, "Woh to maarega hi na" (the fielder has to throw). The stump microphone caught this exchange, adding to the tension on the field.
Despite these incidents, India managed to post a strong total of 376, thanks to the brilliant batting of Ravichandran Ashwin, who scored 113, and Ravindra Jadeja, who contributed a crucial 86. Their 199-run partnership helped India recover from a precarious position at 144 for 6 on day one. Akash Deep, playing in only his second Test, showed resilience and composure until the throw incident disrupted his rhythm.
In the end, the spirited competition between the two sides added an extra layer of excitement to the match. While Hasan Mahmud's aggressive fielding claimed Akash Deep as a casualty, Mahmud himself emerged as a key player for Bangladesh, completing a five-wicket haul, including the dismissal of India's tailender Jasprit Bumrah. The high-stakes Test match, punctuated by these heated moments, has captured the attention of cricket fans worldwide, as both teams vie for early dominance in the series.
