Bryan Little to Retire with Winnipeg Jets in Heartfelt Tribute
In an emotional announcement that resonates with fans and teammates alike, Bryan Little will sign a one-day contract to officially retire as a member of the Winnipeg Jets. This moment marks a significant chapter not just in Little's career but in the history of the franchise itself. Little, now 36, last graced the ice during the 2019-20 season and will be honored at the Jets’ home game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on October 20.
Reflecting on his career, Little expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to retire with the organization that drafted him. "It’s a great honor that I can retire as a member of the Winnipeg Jets and end my playing career with the organization where I was drafted and played my entire NHL career," he shared. His words echo the sentiment of many who have followed his journey from a promising draft pick to a stalwart leader on the ice.

Little was selected as the 12th overall pick by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2006 NHL Draft. Over the course of his 13-year career, he established himself as one of the most reliable forwards in the league. He played 843 games for the franchise, ranking second in franchise history in that regard. His stats speak volumes: 217 goals, 304 assists, and a total of 521 points. Additionally, he contributed significantly in the playoffs, with 12 points in 27 games.
Tragically, Little’s career was marred by injuries, including a significant ear injury he sustained during a game against the New Jersey Devils, which ultimately sidelined him for the remainder of the season. Despite being traded to the Arizona Coyotes in 2022, Little never got the chance to play for them, remaining on long-term injured reserve.
Jets General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff recognized Little’s invaluable contributions to the team. "Bryan Little is a crucial part of the history of this franchise," he said, highlighting Little’s professionalism and leadership qualities. The organization is thrilled to provide fans with the opportunity to celebrate Little and his family as they reflect on a remarkable career.
As Little prepares to close this chapter, he emphasizes the importance of the Jets and the Winnipeg community in his journey. "I had the privilege to play in Winnipeg and in front of the amazing fans for nine seasons," he stated. "It will truly be a full circle moment for my family and I to celebrate my retirement in the building where I have so many special memories."
This farewell marks not just the end of a career but a celebration of a player who has left an indelible mark on the franchise and its loyal fan base. As the Jets gear up for their season opener against the Edmonton Oilers on October 9, anticipation builds for the heartfelt tribute to a player who has given so much to the game and the city of Winnipeg. Bryan Little may be retiring from active play, but his legacy as a Jet will endure in the hearts of fans and in the annals of the franchise's history.
