The decision to call off the search was announced by Emilie Proteau-Beaulieu, a communications advisor with Fisheries and Oceans Canada. She expressed the gravity of the situation, noting that such decisions are always challenging and are made with the utmost consideration for those involved. The Coast Guard's social media posts confirmed the unfortunate reality that the employee was lost at sea.
The search began with a thorough inspection of the vessel and quickly expanded to include a "multi-asset sea search," utilizing various assets in an attempt to find any trace of the missing crew member. Despite these efforts, the search was officially ended on Tuesday afternoon. Proteau-Beaulieu conveyed the Coast Guard's heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the missing crew member, as well as to all those affected by this tragic event.
This incident underscores the inherent risks associated with maritime operations and the intense efforts that go into search and rescue operations when such emergencies arise.
