Flash Flood Watch Canceled for Several Central Alabama Counties as Rainfall Risk Decreases
A flash flood watch that was in effect for several counties in Central Alabama has been canceled, bringing some relief to residents. Jefferson, Shelby, Chilton, Autauga, and Lowndes counties are now removed from the watch list due to a significant decrease in forecasted rainfall amounts. Earlier concerns about potential flash flooding in these areas have diminished, and the overall risk has been categorized as low.
The initial forecast predicted heavier rainfall, which raised the possibility of flash floods in poorly drained areas. However, with the updated weather data, the chance of such flooding is now considered minimal. Any flooding that may occur is expected to be minor and confined to areas where water typically pools, such as low-lying regions or spots with inadequate drainage systems.

That said, not all areas are entirely out of the woods just yet. The flash flood watch remains in effect until 7 a.m. on Friday for several other counties, including Barbour, Bullock, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Elmore, Etowah, Lee, Macon, Montgomery, Pike, Randolph, Russell, St. Clair, Talladega, and Tallapoosa counties. Residents in these regions should stay alert and continue monitoring local forecasts as conditions may still change.
While the current forecast brings a sense of relief for parts of Central Alabama, it’s important to remain cautious, especially in areas where the watch is still active. Flash floods can happen quickly and often catch people by surprise, so it’s always best to be prepared. If you live in an area prone to flooding, particularly those still under the watch, it's wise to avoid travel on flooded roads and keep an eye on local alerts.
As the situation develops, keep informed through reliable weather sources. While the immediate danger seems to have passed for some, staying prepared is key to ensuring safety in the days ahead.
