Florida State's Season Hits a Low as Boston College Delivers Crushing Defeat

The Florida State Seminoles’ 2024 football season is unraveling faster than they could have imagined. Just two games in, the team finds itself in a precarious position, staring down an unexpected 0-2 record. Their latest setback came on Monday night, as the Boston College Eagles delivered a stunning 28-13 upset, further derailing the Seminoles' hopes for a successful season.

The Seminoles, who began the season ranked No. 10 nationally, were expected to make a strong push towards the expanded College Football Playoff. However, their performance so far has been anything but stellar. Against Boston College, it was a case of missed opportunities and crucial errors. The Eagles, led by a formidable offensive display, proved to be more than a match for Florida State.

Boston College running back Kye Robichaux played a pivotal role in the victory. Robichaux’s performance was nothing short of impressive as he tallied 61 receiving yards and a touchdown, alongside 77 rushing yards. Quarterback Thomas Castellanos also made significant contributions, throwing for 106 yards, two touchdowns, and adding a rushing score of his own with 73 additional yards on the ground. Castellanos’ connection with Robichaux was particularly noteworthy, with their third-quarter touchdown putting Boston College up 21-6.

Despite a valiant effort from Florida State to claw back into the game, the deficit proved too great. Seminoles quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Kentron Poitier, narrowing the gap and giving a glimmer of hope. However, Robichaux’s subsequent 2-yard touchdown run extinguished any chance of a Seminoles comeback, sealing the game for Boston College.

Florida State's head coach, Mike Norvell, expressed his disappointment with the team’s performance, acknowledging his role in the preparation shortcomings. “Sick to how this season started,” Norvell lamented. “I failed in preparing the team to be able to go out and respond tonight.”

On the other hand, Boston College head coach Bill O’Brien was understandably pleased with his team’s resilience. “I’m very proud of these guys,” O’Brien said. “To come down here against a team that really in their minds had to have this win, that’s a heck of a statement for BC. But it’s just one win.”

With two consecutive losses, Florida State’s aspirations for a playoff berth now seem to be slipping away. The team will need to regroup and make significant adjustments if they hope to salvage their season and make a push for postseason contention. As the Seminoles face the reality of their early-season struggles, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if they can turn their fortunes around in the weeks to come.
