Pierre Gasly's promising performance in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix qualifying session has been overshadowed by a major technical setback. The stewards confirmed that this breach resulted from an unexpected technical fault, which temporarily increased the fuel mass flow beyond the permissible limit.

Gasly’s disqualification places him at the back of the grid for the race, joining Zhou Guanyu of Sauber, who is also facing penalties for exceeding power unit component limits.
