Harris Dominates Fiery Debate with Trump, Targeting His Falsehoods on Abortion and Immigration
Last night’s presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump was nothing short of intense, with heated exchanges that kept viewers glued to their screens. This was their first major face-off since Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 race, leaving Harris as the Democratic nominee. From the outset, it was clear that both candidates came prepared for a clash, but it was Harris who maintained the upper hand, repeatedly fact-checking Trump and confronting his statements with vigor.
From the beginning, the atmosphere was charged. Trump wasted little time before launching into exaggerated and baseless claims, especially regarding abortion and immigration. One of the most startling moments came when Trump falsely accused Democrats of wanting to allow abortions in the ninth month of pregnancy, a claim that was immediately debunked by both Harris and the moderators. Harris responded with a powerful statement on women’s rights, emphasizing that, as president, she would protect the reproductive freedoms once secured under Roe v. Wade. Trump, on the other hand, praised the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe, yet evaded direct answers about whether he would support a national abortion ban.

Harris also took the opportunity to expose the often bizarre nature of Trump’s campaign rhetoric. She invited viewers to attend one of his rallies to witness his tangents firsthand—such as when he once suggested that windmills cause cancer or when he spoke about fictional characters like Hannibal Lecter. This deft move baited Trump into defending his rallies, at one point making the wild and false claim that Haitian migrants were eating people’s pets in Ohio. Social media quickly lit up with mockery, highlighting how disconnected Trump’s statements seemed from the real issues at hand.
The debate also touched on foreign policy, particularly the conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. Trump continued his long-standing claim that, had he been president, these wars would never have happened. However, when asked whether he wanted Ukraine to win, he dodged the question, instead advocating for a quick end to the war without taking a clear stance. Harris, meanwhile, was more measured, expressing support for Israel’s right to defend itself while calling for dignity and self-determination for Palestinians.
In the final moments of the debate, Harris made a passionate appeal, promising to be a president for all Americans. Trump, characteristically, launched personal attacks, labeling her "the worst vice-president in history." The stark contrast in their approach was clear: Harris focused on policy and inclusivity, while Trump appeared more interested in personal attacks and defending his erratic claims.
This debate may be their only direct face-off before Election Day, and it left many wondering whether it will sway the undecided voters who hold the keys to the 2024 election. With both candidates offering such vastly different visions for the future, the coming weeks will be critical in determining whether Harris’s strong performance will translate into increased support at the polls.
