India Struggles After Early Wickets in First Test Against Bangladesh
India’s first Test match against Bangladesh in Chennai started with a mix of excitement and early setbacks. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and, predictably, chose to field, aiming to capitalize on the early moisture on a red-soil pitch that promised some assistance to the fast bowlers. Bangladesh, known for their discipline with the ball, immediately put India under pressure.
Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, opened the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, but the team struggled to find momentum early on. Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud quickly made his presence felt, delivering a breakthrough by dismissing Rohit for just 6 runs. Mahmud’s pace and accuracy troubled the Indian skipper, who edged the ball to the slips. Moments later, Shubman Gill, India’s promising young batter, also fell to Mahmud, departing without scoring a single run. Litton Das, the Bangladesh wicketkeeper, took a stunning catch, diving to his left, to send Gill packing.

At this point, India found themselves in a difficult situation at 28/2, reeling from the loss of both openers. As Virat Kohli walked to the crease, he was met with a rousing ovation from the Chennai crowd, reflecting his immense popularity and the high expectations resting on his shoulders. Kohli, known for his resilience in challenging situations, joined Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was holding the innings together with a steady performance.
Despite the early setbacks, Jaiswal showed flashes of brilliance, particularly when he found the boundary twice in one over off Taskin Ahmed. His composure was crucial for India as they attempted to rebuild after losing two key wickets early in the innings. Bangladesh's bowlers, however, remained relentless, eyeing further breakthroughs to maintain the upper hand.
With Kohli and Jaiswal at the crease, India’s immediate goal is to stabilize the innings and form a strong partnership. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will look to capitalize on the early breakthroughs and keep India's powerful batting lineup in check. The opening session has already set the stage for a gripping contest, with both teams fighting for dominance in this crucial first Test.
