Jerry Jones on Cowboys’ Crushing Loss to Saints: ‘We Will Correct This’
The Dallas Cowboys suffered a tough defeat in their Week 2 matchup against the New Orleans Saints, a loss that resonates with frustration and disappointment, especially following their dominant win over the Browns in Week 1. The Saints rolled over the Cowboys with a crushing 44-19 victory, highlighting significant issues on both sides of the ball for Dallas. Owner and general manager Jerry Jones did not mince words following the game, stressing that while it's early in the season, there's an urgent need for improvement.
From the opening snap, it was clear the Saints had the upper hand, with Alvin Kamara putting on a show by scoring four touchdowns—three on the ground and one via a pass from Derek Carr. The Cowboys’ defense struggled to contain Kamara and had no answers for Carr, who expertly spread the ball to receivers like Raheed Shaheed and Chris Olave. Dallas allowed touchdowns on the first six drives, while their offense could only produce one touchdown, a far cry from their explosive Week 1 performance.

The frustration was palpable as the Cowboys’ offense couldn’t capitalize on key drives, often settling for field goals instead of touchdowns. Defensively, they were exposed, giving up 436 yards of offense to the Saints while only managing 353 yards of their own. Even Dak Prescott, the Cowboys’ leader under center, struggled to find his rhythm, and costly turnovers, like interceptions, only compounded the team’s woes.
Jerry Jones, addressing the media post-game, acknowledged the pain of the loss but expressed confidence that the team would bounce back. "The big lesson here is you can get to thinking you've got it figured out way too early in the game. We're 1-1 and we've got to learn," he said. Jones emphasized that despite the blowout, it's still early in the season, and the Cowboys have time to correct their mistakes.
Looking ahead, the Cowboys face an even bigger challenge as they prepare to meet the Baltimore Ravens. With reigning MVP Lamar Jackson and star running back Derrick Henry in their sights, Dallas knows the road ahead won’t get any easier. The Ravens are desperate to avoid a 0-3 start, and the Cowboys will need to regroup quickly to avoid being on the receiving end of another tough loss.
In the end, Jones left fans with a promise: "We will correct this. We will improve from where we played out there today." While Week 2 didn’t go as planned for the Cowboys, all eyes are on how they respond in the coming weeks. Week 3 will be a crucial test of their resilience and ability to bounce back from adversity.
