In a recent interview on the show Los Informantes , Fernández reflected on his complex yet significant relationship with Marín. The two first crossed paths at Imevisión, which later became TV Azteca, where Fernández was a pivotal mentor for many emerging sports journalists, including Marín. Despite the challenges and eventual professional separation between them, Fernández expressed that he held no lingering resentment.
Fernández acknowledged Marín’s enthusiasm and competitive spirit, noting, “André was a good guy, a fighter. Unfortunately, he fell ill during the pandemic, and that virus took its toll on him. He started at Channel 13 and was always driven. His last appearance was at Univisión. When I saw him last, we shared a meaningful hug. I told him what I needed to say right then. I told him I esteemed him and hoped we’d see each other again soon.”
Fernández also shared a more personal insight into Marín’s character, noting that while Marín was driven and ambitious, his competitiveness sometimes led to tension. “André was very enthusiastic and determined, but he had a competitive edge, especially with his peers. He aimed to be the best and succeeded when he moved to Fox Sports. He competed fiercely, not just with those outside his circle but with his own colleagues, to prove his prowess.”
Despite any professional rivalries, Fernández emphasized that Marín was a valued and respected individual. “I never felt hurt by André. We had our issues, but we resolved them. The most important thing was our mutual respect and the acknowledgment of our shared experiences. His passing is a significant loss, not just personally but to the entire sports journalism community.”
The news of Marín's death has deeply affected those who knew him and worked with him. His career, marked by his distinctive voice and insights, has left an indelible mark on sports media. As Fernández and others reflect on his legacy, it’s clear that while Marín faced many challenges, his contributions to sports journalism were impactful and memorable.
