Linkin Park Announces Reunion with Emily Armstrong as New Lead Singer
Linkin Park, the iconic rock band that has been a staple in the music industry for decades, is making headlines once again with a significant change in their lineup. After a hiatus that followed the tragic death of their former lead singer Chester Bennington in 2017, the band is officially reuniting with a fresh face at the forefront: Emily Armstrong. Known for her powerful voice and emotional delivery as the lead singer of the alt-rock band Dead Sara, Armstrong will now share vocal duties with Linkin Park's co-founder Mike Shinoda.
The announcement comes ahead of the release of Linkin Park’s upcoming album, “From Zero,” and a highly anticipated world tour. This marks a new chapter for the band, who have not performed live since Bennington's passing. Armstrong's addition is a bold step for Linkin Park, signaling a renewed energy and direction for the group. She will be joining returning members Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Phoenix, and Joe Hahn, while Colin Brittain will take over as the new drummer, replacing Rob Bourdon, who opted to step away from the band.

Emily Armstrong's journey to joining Linkin Park is a story of both serendipity and homage. Growing up in Los Angeles, Armstrong was profoundly influenced by Linkin Park's seminal 2000 album, “Hybrid Theory.” She recalls how tracks like “One Step Closer” inspired her to pursue a career in music, noting that the album was a constant companion during her teenage years. Armstrong's admiration for Linkin Park has come full circle as she steps into a role that once belonged to Bennington, a vocalist she deeply respects.
In a recent interview with Billboard, Armstrong shared her emotional response to the opportunity. "I was panicking in the best way," she said, reflecting on the surreal moment when she was asked to join the band. The adjustment from her own band, Dead Sara, to Linkin Park has been both exhilarating and daunting. Armstrong is committed to honoring Bennington's legacy while infusing her own style into the band's music. She understands the challenge of filling such a significant role but is determined to bring her own passion and energy to the table.
Linkin Park's new album, “From Zero,” is set to be released on November 15, 2024. The album title is a nod to the band’s origins, as they were initially named Xero before becoming Linkin Park with Bennington's arrival. The release will be preceded by a single titled “The Emptiness Machine,” which the band recently performed during a live-streamed concert to celebrate their new lineup.
The forthcoming world tour will see the band visiting major cities including Los Angeles, New York, Hamburg, Seoul, and London, with additional stops planned in Bogotá. This tour will be their first live performance tour since Bennington's death, and fans are eager to see how the new lineup will deliver the band's signature blend of rock and rap.
While the news of Armstrong joining Linkin Park has been met with a mix of enthusiasm and skepticism, it represents a significant moment for the band and their fans. The challenge of continuing without Bennington is immense, but with Armstrong’s addition, Linkin Park is poised to embark on a new journey, paying tribute to their past while charting a path forward.
