Manchester United Held to Frustrating Stalemate by Crystal Palace in Goalless Draw
Manchester United were left frustrated after a goalless draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, with goalkeeper Andre Onana emerging as the hero for the Red Devils. Despite United's dominance throughout much of the match, Palace’s defense, led by former United keeper Dean Henderson, managed to keep them at bay, denying several clear-cut chances. Erik ten Hag’s side struggled to find a breakthrough, and while they showed flashes of brilliance, they couldn’t capitalize on their numerous opportunities.
Alejandro Garnacho, who replaced Marcus Rashford in the starting lineup, had a couple of close attempts early on, including a shot that rattled the crossbar. Bruno Fernandes was quick to pounce on the rebound, but he too found the woodwork, marking a frustrating start for the visitors. Palace, on the other hand, looked subdued in the first half, barely threatening United's goal until later in the match. Henderson, in goal for Palace, played a pivotal role against his former club, making crucial saves, including stops from Garnacho and Matthijs de Ligt, to keep the game level.

The second half saw more urgency from Crystal Palace, spurred on by changes from manager Oliver Glasner. The introduction of Eberechi Eze and Ismaïla Sarr added some attacking intent to the home side, but United’s defense, particularly Onana, held firm. Onana’s standout moment came with a breathtaking double save, first denying Eddie Nketiah’s strike and then reacting quickly to stop Sarr’s follow-up, keeping United’s clean sheet intact.
Lisandro MartÃnez was lucky to stay on the field after a reckless two-footed challenge on Daichi Kamada, escaping with just a yellow card. Marcus Rashford came off the bench in the second half to replace Joshua Zirkzee, but even his presence couldn’t tilt the scales in United's favor. Rashford, fresh off a strong run of form, found it difficult to make a significant impact against a resolute Palace defense.
While Manchester United continued to press, Palace remained resilient, frustrating Ten Hag’s men as time ran out. Garnacho and Fernandes missed further chances, and despite all their possession and pressure, United couldn’t find the winning goal. Palace’s search for their first Premier League win of the season continues, but they’ll take heart from this hard-fought draw against a strong United side.
In the end, Manchester United will see this as two points dropped rather than one gained, particularly given their control of the game. For Palace, the draw offered some much-needed solidity, though they remain winless in the league. Both teams will need to reflect and regroup as they prepare for the next round of fixtures.
