Miami Marlins Dominate Toronto Blue Jays in 15-5 Blowout, Xavier Edwards Shines

The Miami Marlins delivered a commanding performance against the Toronto Blue Jays, claiming a decisive 15-5 victory at the Rogers Centre. Xavier Edwards emerged as the star of the night, etching his name into franchise history by becoming the first Marlins player to hit three triples in a single game. This rare achievement also made Edwards the first Major League Baseball player to record three triples in a game since 2014, as he went 3-for-5 with four RBIs. His contributions were instrumental in the Marlins’ dominant win, showcasing speed and timely hitting.

The Marlins struck early, scoring three runs in the first inning off Jays' starter José Berríos. Jonah Bride added to the offensive onslaught with two home runs, marking his 10th and 11th of the season. The Marlins piled up 17 hits in total, while Griffin Conine also contributed with a home run and three RBIs against his former team, driving the Blue Jays deeper into their late-season slump. The Marlins' unrelenting attack was highlighted by a five-run seventh inning that buried any hopes of a Blue Jays comeback.

On the Blue Jays’ side, Ernie Clement provided a solo home run in the fourth inning, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. continued his solid season with two hits, leaving him just one shy of the 200-hit milestone. Despite a 12-hit effort from Toronto, including a strong showing from Alejandro Kirk, who extended his hitting streak to 18 games, the Blue Jays couldn’t keep up with the Marlins’ firepower.

Blue Jays' starter Berríos struggled significantly in his final outing of the season, allowing six runs on six hits over three innings. He struck out four but also walked three, resulting in his shortest start of the season. The frustration was palpable as Toronto’s manager, John Schneider, acknowledged the team’s poor pitching, though he praised the effort on the field. Berríos ended his season with a 16-11 record but will undoubtedly be disappointed with this performance.

Adam Oller, the Marlins' starting pitcher, secured his second win of the season, allowing four earned runs across five innings. He kept the Blue Jays' offense in check long enough for Miami’s bats to continue piling up the runs.

The Marlins’ win also coincided with a notable managerial update. Midway through the game, it was announced that Marlins’ manager Skip Schumaker would miss the remainder of the season due to a family medical issue. Bench coach Luis Urueta took over managerial duties for the final two games of the year.

This dominant showing by the Marlins (60-100) not only crushed the Blue Jays (74-86) but also underscored Toronto’s struggles in September, where they have gone 7-15. As the season winds down, the Blue Jays look to salvage the remaining games, sending Yariel Rodríguez to the mound for Saturday's matchup. The Marlins, riding high off this victory, have yet to announce their starter.
