MKR Dessert Catastrophe: Simone & Viviana's Unforgettable Flop

Last night’s episode of My Kitchen Rules took a dramatic turn as Simone and Viviana, the talented Italian duo, saw their near-perfect evening crumble spectacularly due to a dessert disaster. Their journey from triumph to turmoil serves as a reminder of how quickly fortunes can change in the high-stakes world of competitive cooking.

The episode started with great promise. Simone and Viviana, representing their Instant Restaurant "Sotto le Stelle" (Under the Stars), impressed with an innovative Ricotta and Prawn Cannoli Salati for their entrée. The dish earned praise across the board, with Judge Colin Fassnidge awarding the season’s first perfect score. Simone, full of confidence, declared their goal was to deliver “Italian food you haven’t tasted before,” setting high expectations for their main course.

Their main course, Tagliatelle Ragu Di Polpo (Octopus), followed suit, leaving a lasting impression. Judges Manu Feildel and Colin Fassnidge were effusive in their praise, with Manu even commenting on the memorable nature of the dish. Viviana, clearly moved by the accolades, was visibly emotional as the judges lauded their complex flavors and techniques.

However, the celebration was short-lived. The final course, a Pistachio Tortino, was where things went horribly wrong. In a shocking twist, Viviana realized too late that she had omitted flour from the dessert. This crucial oversight resulted in an undercooked and unappetizing dessert. The duo scrambled to salvage the situation, but with insufficient plates, they had to ask their fellow contestants to share what they had.

The reaction from the judges was less than forgiving. Manu Feildel, astonished by the unprecedented level of trouble, remarked that such a mistake was unheard of in his years on the show. The judges’ scores reflected their disappointment, with Colin giving a mere 2 and Manu a 3 for the failed dessert. This starkly contrasted with the high marks they received for their entrée and main, bringing their final score to a disappointing 74 out of 110.

Adding to their woes, tension flared when Mike questioned Simone’s credentials, accusing him of being a professional chef despite his claim of working front-of-house. Simone defended himself, but the exchange seemed to unsettle the pair further.

In the end, despite their strong start, the disastrous dessert cost Simone and Viviana dearly, leaving them in second place behind Rob and Liam, who lead with a score of 84 out of 110. The competition continues next week in Townsville, where the pressure mounts as Danny and Sonia attempt to make their mark with North Queensland cuisine. Tune in Monday and Tuesday at 7:30 PM on Channel 7 and 7plus to catch the next thrilling chapter of My Kitchen Rules .
