On Friday evening, a shooting incident at the Arizona Mills Mall in Tempe sent waves of fear and panic through the crowd of shoppers. It all unfolded around 7:30 p.m., near Interstate 10 and Baseline Road, when the mall was bustling with activity. Despite the chaos and fear that ensued, authorities have confirmed that no one was injured during the event. What had initially raised concerns about a possible active shooter was quickly clarified by the Tempe Police Department as a “shooting incident,” rather than an ongoing threat.

Dozens of police officers and deputies from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene, blocking off several mall exits to ensure safety and begin their investigation. As police worked to secure the area, shoppers and employees sought refuge, hiding in stores and backrooms. Two teens who were at the mall described their experience, recounting how they saw people running and, unsure of what was happening, took cover in a back room. They explained how fear set in as they realized there was a shooting incident near the dining area. Like many others, they stayed hidden until the situation was under control.
As of now, it remains unclear what led to the shooting or exactly where within the mall it took place. Police are conducting a thorough investigation, but they emphasized that the situation is no longer considered an active shooter scenario, and the public is not at risk. However, they continue to urge people to stay away from the area as the investigation unfolds.
