Real Madrid Hold On to Narrow Victory Against Alavés as Mbappé, Vinicius, and Rodrygo Shine
Real Madrid secured a tense 3-2 victory over Deportivo Alavés in La Liga, in a match that saw their attacking trio of Kylian Mbappé, Vinicius Junior, and Rodrygo deliver an electric first-half performance. Despite a near collapse late in the game, Carlo Ancelotti's side held on for the win, adding another three points to their title challenge.
The match began with Real Madrid looking unstoppable. Their front line, spearheaded by Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappé, and Rodrygo, worked seamlessly together, causing havoc for Alavés' defense. The first breakthrough came when Lucas Vazquez, in an unexpected role, finished off a smart cutback from Vinicius, giving Madrid a deserved lead. Soon after, Mbappé, who had been dangerous throughout, doubled the score with a simple finish after combining neatly with Jude Bellingham. It was exactly the kind of clinical display Madrid fans have come to expect from the French star since his much-anticipated summer arrival.

Rodrygo made it 3-0 shortly after the break, finding the back of the net with ease after evading two defenders. It appeared the game was wrapped up, and Madrid could cruise to a comfortable win. Endrick, brought on as a substitute, nearly added a fourth when his shot deflected off the post, but that was where the smooth ride ended for Madrid.
Alavés refused to go quietly. A thunderous strike from Carlos Protesoni, which pinged off the post, cut the deficit to 3-1. Just two minutes later, veteran striker Kike Garcia capitalized on Madrid’s defensive lapse, bringing the visitors within one goal and setting up a nervy final stretch. With momentum now fully on Alavés' side, Madrid had to rely on some last-ditch defending to avoid a late equalizer.
Although Real Madrid dominated much of the match, their second-half performance nearly undid the good work of the first 45 minutes. Carlo Ancelotti will be pleased with the win but concerned about the team’s ability to close out games with more authority. For Madrid fans, the victory felt more like an escape than a triumph, with the defensive issues and lack of concentration in the second half almost proving costly.
Nonetheless, the individual brilliance of their forwards, particularly Mbappé, Vinicius, and Rodrygo, continues to be a bright spot for the team. They remain in the hunt for the La Liga title, but with tough fixtures ahead, including a derby against Atletico Madrid, Ancelotti will need to ensure his squad maintains focus across the full 90 minutes.
