Serious Collision on M25 Causes Major Delays for Drivers Near Rickmansworth
Today, the M25 motorway saw significant disruptions following a serious multi-vehicle collision that occurred in the early hours. The incident took place between junctions 16 (M40) and 17 (Rickmansworth) on the clockwise carriageway, resulting in the closure of lanes 3 and 4. The accident involved six cars and a motorcycle, leading to considerable delays and major congestion.
Emergency services, including the Thames Valley Police and National Highways Traffic Officers, were quickly dispatched to the scene. They worked to manage the traffic and assess the situation. According to reports, the motorcyclist involved in the crash sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and has been taken to the hospital. Thankfully, there have been no reports of other serious injuries.

Drivers were advised to expect delays of up to 90 minutes, with traffic queues stretching for miles during the peak of the incident. To help manage the situation, National Highways implemented a diversion, urging drivers to leave the M25 at junction 16 and follow the M40 eastbound towards Uxbridge. From there, drivers were directed to take the A40 and A412 routes to bypass the closed section of the motorway, allowing them to rejoin the M25 at junction 17.
The collision and subsequent lane closures were first reported around 7:45 AM. By mid-morning, traffic management authorities updated the public, stating that all lanes of the motorway had been reopened. However, drivers were still experiencing slower-than-usual travel speeds as congestion gradually cleared.
Authorities continue to urge drivers to plan their journeys, suggesting alternative routes and allowing extra travel time. The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of road travel and the importance of staying updated on traffic conditions, especially on busy motorways like the M25.
As the investigation continues and the area clears, motorists are encouraged to drive carefully and follow any further instructions from traffic authorities.
