Initial reports suggest that the Secret Service was involved in the response, firing at the suspect who reportedly aimed a rifle at the golf course. A long gun has been recovered by authorities, and the suspect is now in custody. The Secret Service, working in coordination with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, is actively investigating the incident, which they have described as a "protective incident" involving Trump.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have both been briefed on the situation. Both leaders expressed relief upon hearing that Trump was unharmed. This shooting comes just over two months after a separate assassination attempt against Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. During that incident, a gunman fired at Trump from a nearby building, resulting in one fatality among the crowd before being shot by a Secret Service agent. The scrutiny faced by the Secret Service in that case led to significant fallout, including the resignation of the agency’s director.
As the investigation into the latest incident continues, Trump has reassured his supporters via email, stating, "Nothing will slow me down. I will never surrender!" The Secret Service’s rapid response and the prompt lockdown of the golf course appear to have been effective in preventing any harm to the former president.
