In an exciting matchup at Bridgestone Arena, Connor McDavid scored his first goal of the season, helping the Edmonton Oilers secure a 4-2 victory against the Nashville Predators. The Oilers have now won back-to-back games after a rough start to the season, improving their record to 2-3-0. On the other side, the Predators, still searching for their first win, dropped to 0-4-0.

Brett Kulak was a standout performer for the Oilers, scoring two goals, including an empty-netter in the dying seconds to seal the win. It was Kulak’s first multi-goal game in his 503-game NHL career, adding a huge boost to Edmonton's defense. Calvin Pickard also played his part, making 25 saves, while Juuse Saros stopped 32 shots for Nashville.

The game was filled with momentum shifts. Nashville took the lead in the first period with Filip Forsberg tipping in a shot from Roman Josi. However, Kulak responded late in the first with a top-shelf slap shot, evening the score at 1-1.

In the second period, Jeff Skinner gave Edmonton a 2-1 lead after a scramble in front of Saros, just as the Oilers’ power play expired. Nashville quickly answered with a power-play goal of their own, as Jonathan Marchessault scored his first goal for the Predators, tying the game at 2-2. But just 44 seconds later, McDavid grabbed a loose puck and beat Saros, regaining the lead for the Oilers.

Despite flashes of good play, the Predators couldn’t sustain their momentum. They continued to struggle in crucial moments, which coach Andrew Brunette pointed out after the game. Kulak's empty-netter in the final minute was the nail in the coffin, keeping Nashville winless to start the season.

It was a milestone night for Nashville’s Luke Schenn, who played in his 1,000th NHL game, though the celebration was overshadowed by another frustrating defeat for the Predators.

With McDavid’s game-winning goal, he notched his 70th career game-winner, just two shy of the Oilers’ franchise record held by Glenn Anderson. As for the Predators, they'll need to regroup quickly as they prepare for their next game against the Detroit Red Wings.
