Devils Dominate Canucks 6-0 with Stellar Play from Hischier, Markstrom, and Hughes Brothers
In a commanding performance, the New Jersey Devils shut out the Vancouver Canucks 6-0 at Rogers Arena, showcasing excellent teamwork and star player contributions. Jacob Markstrom led the charge defensively, recording 20 saves and securing his first shutout of the season. Nico Hischier also shined on offense, racking up three points with a goal and two assists to power the Devils to this impressive victory.
The scoring frenzy began early as Hischier fired in a swift goal just 53 seconds into the game, assisted by Dawson Mercer on a sharp 2-on-1 play. This early goal set the pace for the Devils, who only continued to strengthen their offensive push. The partnership between Hischier and Mercer proved productive, with Mercer later capitalizing on a shorthanded opportunity to make it 2-0 in the second period, extending the Devils' momentum against the Canucks.

Timo Meier and Ondrej Palat kept the Devils’ offense rolling, each finding the net to extend the lead to 4-0 by the second period’s end. Meier scored from the left face-off dot, threading a precise wrist shot between Vancouver’s defenseman Tyler Myers. Not long after, Palat skillfully knocked in his own rebound, adding another goal that left the Canucks struggling to keep up.
As the third period unfolded, Jack Hughes continued the Devils’ scoring streak. With a power-play setup from Stefan Noesen, Hughes secured a backdoor goal to increase the Devils' lead to 5-0. Notably, the game featured all three Hughes brothers—Jack and Luke representing the Devils, and Quinn playing for the Canucks—a unique family rivalry that has added a compelling dynamic to NHL matchups. Jack and Luke not only contributed to this victory but have established an impressive record against Quinn’s Canucks, winning seven out of eight games.
Tomas Tatar closed the night’s scoring with a well-executed tap-in, finalizing the score at 6-0. On the Canucks' end, goaltender Arturs Silovs faced a challenging night, allowing six goals on 22 shots, marking a tough return to the net for him.
With this win, the Devils improved to a 7-4-2 record and have now posted consecutive victories after a brief winless stretch. The Canucks, meanwhile, have now lost back-to-back games, following a four-game winning streak. Markstrom’s stellar shutout performance, the relentless Devils offense, and the skillful contributions from Hischier, Hughes, and Mercer made this game a showcase of the Devils’ potential as they continue their season journey.
