The series is being developed in collaboration with Big Talk Studios , which has previously produced acclaimed projects such as The Outlaws . They have crafted a six-minute animatic pilot for In Case of Emergency , showcasing their commitment to quality and creativity. The pilot features contributions from notable figures within the British comedy community, although specific casting announcements have yet to be made. Additionally, the project involves Blue Zoo Animation Studio , a renowned British animation company recognized for producing The Adventures of Paddington , ensuring a visually engaging experience for viewers.
Kenton Allen, the CEO of Big Talk, confirmed the project during an interview with Deadline, revealing that Netflix approached the studio with the ambition of creating this animated series. The excitement surrounding In Case of Emergency is palpable, especially given Rickard and Willbond’s successful track record. The duo has penned all five seasons of Ghosts for the BBC, which has become one of the broadcaster’s most successful family comedies in recent memory. Their expertise extends to the American version of Ghosts , which has been renewed for a fourth season on CBS, further solidifying their reputation as masters of comedy.
Rickard and Willbond’s previous collaborations with Big Talk include the sci-fi comedy We Are Not Alone , which aired on BBC Studios' U&Dave network. Their unique ability to blend humor with engaging storytelling has made them standout figures in the comedy landscape. Beyond their writing talents, they also brought characters to life in Ghosts , with Rickard portraying The Captain and Willbond playing the caveman Robin. Their performances have undoubtedly added depth and charm to the series, further endearing them to audiences.
While In Case of Emergency is still in development and awaiting official greenlighting, the anticipation is high. Netflix UK chief Anne Mensah and Julio Bonet, the streamer’s London-based manager of adult animation, are overseeing the show’s progress, hinting at the network's confidence in the duo's vision. The combination of Rickard and Willbond's comedic genius, alongside the production talents of Big Talk and Blue Zoo, sets the stage for a series that could potentially resonate with both British and international audiences.
