Former Abercrombie CEO Mike Jeffries Faces Trafficking Allegations in Explosive Case
Mike Jeffries, the former CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch, finds himself at the center of a serious legal battle. Alongside his British partner Matthew Smith, Jeffries is facing sex trafficking charges after a detailed investigation by New York prosecutors. The case alleges that Jeffries and Smith ran an elaborate sex trafficking operation, spending millions of dollars to exploit vulnerable young men under the guise of offering modeling opportunities.
Prosecutors claim that from 2008 to 2015, Jeffries, Smith, and a middleman named James Jacobson orchestrated sex events in various locations worldwide, including New York, England, and France. The men targeted for these events were reportedly misled to believe that participating could help their careers. They were coerced into signing non-disclosure agreements and had their personal belongings, such as wallets and phones, confiscated during the events. These parties were allegedly filled with alcohol, drugs, and sexual exploitation.

One of the most disturbing aspects of the indictment is the claim that when men refused to participate or did not consent to certain acts, they were violated in disturbing ways. The alleged victims were pressured into consuming drugs like "poppers" and subjected to degrading treatment.
Breon Peace, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, described Jeffries' operation as an abuse of power, where young men were lured by promises of career advancement. He warned that those in positions of influence who use these tactics for sexual exploitation will be held accountable.
While Jeffries and Smith deny any wrongdoing, the charges are significant. The case has been building for years, partly based on media investigations, including a BBC report that uncovered similar allegations against Jeffries in 2023. With the indictment now public, Jeffries’ defense team has said they will respond to the allegations in court.
