Former Rangers Striker Alfredo Morelos Arrested for Drink-Driving in Colombia

Former Rangers star Alfredo Morelos finds himself in serious legal trouble after being arrested for drink-driving in his native Colombia. The 28-year-old, currently on loan at Atlético Nacional, was reportedly involved in a road accident that resulted in severe injuries to a motorcyclist. According to Colombian media, the accident took place near the José María Córdova airport in Rionegro, Antioquia, when Morelos, driving a pickup truck, attempted to overtake another vehicle but swerved into the oncoming lane, crashing into a motorcycle.

Authorities later confirmed that Morelos had a blood alcohol level of Grade 2, which is significantly over the legal limit. The motorcyclist, identified as Sebastián Guillermo Dávila Valderrama, was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, including broken limbs and abdominal trauma. Videos circulating on social media show the chaotic scene, where passersby tried to assist the injured motorcyclist, who was struggling to stand up after the crash.

Although Morelos escaped the incident physically unharmed, the consequences are potentially severe. Local police have suspended his driver’s license, and he faces a hefty fine of over £4,000, along with a possible driving ban ranging from three to five years. The footballer, who gained notoriety during his time at Rangers for both his goal-scoring prowess and disciplinary issues, is now facing the possibility of criminal charges.

Morelos left Rangers in 2023 after scoring an impressive 124 goals across six seasons, becoming a fan favorite despite his fiery temper and controversial moments on the pitch. His return to South America initially saw him join Santos in Brazil, but he was loaned out to Atlético Nacional earlier this year. Now, this unfortunate incident could overshadow his on-field achievements and derail his career if the legal process results in further penalties.

The news of Morelos’ arrest has sent shockwaves through both the football world and his fans, especially those who followed his career in Scotland. Many are now questioning what the future holds for the Colombian striker, who, until recently, was known more for his skill on the pitch than his actions off it.
