Harry Kane Reacts to Eric Dier's Shocking Golf Retirement
Harry Kane recently expressed his astonishment over Eric Dier’s unexpected retirement from golf, following a challenging summer for his Bayern Munich teammate. The news, delivered with a mix of disbelief and concern, has left Kane struggling to come to terms with Dier's decision, as he has always known Dier to be incredibly passionate about the sport. Their close friendship, which developed during their time together at Tottenham Hotspur, adds a layer of poignancy to the situation.
Dier, who had just returned to Bayern Munich after a successful stint on loan from Spurs, had initially spoken about his plans to take both German lessons and golf lessons. However, it seems the latter has taken an unexpected turn. The two players, who not only played together at Tottenham but also represented England on the international stage, have formed a strong bond that Kane values deeply. When Dier informed Kane of his retirement from golf, it was met with shock.

In a recent appearance on The Rick Shiels Golf Show , Kane shared the moment he learned about Dier's decision to retire from the sport. He noted, “A good friend of mine, Eric Dier, is going through a bit of a… I’ll give him a little shoutout, he’s going through a bit of a tough spell.” Kane recalled how Dier had been fully immersed in golf, playing at some of the finest courses, only to abruptly step away from the game he once loved.
Kane reflected on how hard it was for him to understand why Dier made such a drastic choice, stating, “I can’t get my head around it, so we’re trying to get him back out of retirement to get out there and play.” He expressed hope that Dier would find his way back to the golf course, suggesting that the right environment and motivation could rekindle his love for the game. “Just need to get him out there, and once he has that feeling, I think he’ll be sweet,” Kane added, revealing his intent to support Dier through this challenging period.
While Dier's decision to retire from golf may come as a surprise, he is still relatively young at 30, and the prospect of retiring from football is far off. Both players are eager to find success at Bayern, as they have yet to win any silverware since their respective moves. Currently, Bayern Munich leads the Bundesliga, and with both Dier and Kane eager to prove their worth, the focus will undoubtedly shift back to their football careers.
As Dier navigates this personal setback, the support of teammates like Kane will be crucial. Their shared history and friendship can provide the encouragement needed for Dier to regain his confidence, not just in golf but also as he continues to build his football career at Bayern Munich. The bond between these two athletes is evident, and their future on the pitch, as well as on the golf course, remains intertwined in this new chapter of their lives.
