Mathieu Joseph and Jake Neighbours Propel Blues to Victory Over Hurricanes
In a thrilling match at the Enterprise Center, Mathieu Joseph and Jake Neighbours played pivotal roles in the St. Louis Blues' 4-3 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. Both players recorded a goal and an assist, helping the Blues secure their second consecutive win. St. Louis had to overcome a tough start, as they were outshot 19-4 in the first period, with Joel Hofer making 18 saves to keep the team in the game.
The Hurricanes, fresh off a 4-1 victory over Pittsburgh, took an early lead when Andrei Svechnikov scored just over a minute into the game. Despite the initial setback, the Blues rallied in the second period, scoring three goals within a span of 3:09. Mathieu Joseph tied the game at 1-1 with a turnaround wrist shot, followed by Jake Neighbours' wrist shot from the right circle, putting the Blues ahead. Dylan Holloway then added to the lead with his first goal as a Blue, giving St. Louis a 3-1 cushion.

Carolina, however, wasn’t finished. They stormed back in the third period with two quick goals, one by Shayne Gostisbehere on a power play and another from Jack Roslovic. Just like that, the game was tied at 3-3. However, St. Louis regained the lead when Kasperi Kapanen drove past Brent Burns and scored on a high glove shot, giving the Blues a 4-3 advantage, which they held onto until the final buzzer.
Despite the Hurricanes’ efforts, including Svechnikov’s goal and assist, and a valiant 15-save performance from Pyotr Kochetkov, Carolina couldn’t complete the comeback. The Blues' defense and the outstanding 37-save performance by Hofer proved decisive in the victory.
Coach Rod Brind'Amour of the Hurricanes acknowledged that the team had played well overall but admitted that a few crucial mistakes, including penalties and turnovers, shifted the momentum in favor of the Blues. As for the Blues, Coach Drew Bannister praised the team's ability to capitalize on their offensive opportunities, especially during the second period, which turned out to be the defining moment of the game.
With this victory, the Blues improve to a 4-2-0 record and continue their homestand, while the Hurricanes, now 2-2-0, will look to bounce back in their next match against the Edmonton Oilers.
