Matthew Perry’s Family Speaks Out on Upcoming Trial, Remembers His Final Days
In a heartfelt interview marking the one-year anniversary of Matthew Perry’s death, his mother, Suzanne Morrison, and his family opened up about his last days, his struggles, and the quest for justice that lies ahead. Known for his iconic role as Chandler Bing on Friends , Perry’s life was also marked by his brave, candid battle with addiction. Found unresponsive in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023, Perry's death was attributed to the effects of ketamine, a drug he was reportedly administered. The family shared that although Perry had been open about his past with substance use, he was believed to be sober at the time of his death.

In their interview with NBC's Today show, Morrison revealed intimate details from her last moments with her son. She recalled how Perry expressed deep affection, telling her, “I love you so much, and I’m so happy to be with you now,” a poignant memory that, in hindsight, felt like a premonition. She shared that in the days leading up to his death, Perry seemed at peace but also deeply reflective. His final words to her about not being afraid anymore, however, filled her with concern. Perry’s family had often been by his side throughout his journey, watching him open up to the public about addiction, sobriety, and his wish to help others who struggled as he did.
Perry’s stepfather, Keith Morrison, emphasized the importance of the upcoming trial for two individuals allegedly involved in supplying the drugs that led to his death. With a determination for accountability, Keith stated, “People who put themselves in the business of supplying drugs that kill are now on notice. You’re going down, baby.” This trial represents not only a call for justice but a message to those who profit from addiction that they will be held accountable.
Perry’s mother reflected on the love and grief shared by fans who continue to visit his grave, leaving notes expressing gratitude for the comfort his work brought them. His family is proud of Perry’s legacy, which included his commitment to supporting others in recovery, a cause he championed through his foundation. His sister, Caitlin, now oversees the Matthew Perry Foundation in Canada, with a focus on offering resources and support to those battling addiction. As the family remembers Perry, they honor his resilience and the lives he touched.
