The Open Beta introduces players to the Oilwell Basin, an awe-inspiring new setting in Monster Hunter Wilds. As the name suggests, the area is dotted with active oil wells that unpredictably erupt in flames, making the environment both visually stunning and hazardous. Within this locale, players will encounter Azuz, a community built around an impressive fire forge, home to skilled artisans and hunters. This setting promises a fresh take on world-building with dynamic weather and ecosystem changes, immersing players in a world where the environment is a constant threat as well as a marvel to explore.
Players can expect to encounter unique monsters like the “Black Flame,” a mysterious creature that has already sparked intrigue among fans. Alongside it is Ajarakan, a fanged beast with a hard, shell-like back that radiates heat in dangerous “Firespring” weather. Then there’s the Brute Wyvern, Rompopolo, a creature adapted to the oil-rich, volatile environment. These creatures demonstrate Capcom’s attention to detail, giving players creatures with rich ecologies and intriguing backstories to uncover.
Beta participants can dive into character creation, offering customizable designs that can be carried over into the full game. In the story trial, players will tackle the opening chapter and engage in the challenging “Doshaguma Hunt.” This feature introduces multiplayer capabilities via an SOS Flare, enabling hunters to team up with friends or AI NPC support hunters if desired.
Capcom’s use of PS5’s DualSense controller technology amplifies the immersive experience. Players will feel distinct vibrations corresponding to in-game events, like thunderous roars and the eerie hum of wildlife, thanks to the controller’s haptic feedback, while 3D audio technology intensifies the atmosphere. The adaptive triggers and motion sensors help players intuitively zoom, track monsters, and engage in thrilling hunts, setting a new standard for immersion in Monster Hunter games.
With a full release scheduled for February 28, 2025, the Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta is a must-play for anyone eager to experience Capcom’s latest evolution in the series.
