Cissy Houston, a legendary gospel singer and mother of the late Whitney Houston, has passed away at the age of 91. Her family confirmed that she died peacefully in her New Jersey home while in hospice care after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. The Houston family, deeply saddened by the loss, described her as a strong and towering figure in their lives.
Cissy Houston's impact on the world of music was immense. Born in 1933, she was the youngest of eight children, and music was a part of her life from a very early age. She formed a gospel group with her siblings and went on to make history in the music world. In the 1960s, she co-founded the R&B group The Sweet Inspirations, who provided backup vocals for music legends such as Elvis Presley, Otis Redding, Dusty Springfield, and Dionne Warwick. The group was also featured on Van Morrison’s iconic hit “Brown Eyed Girl,” among many others.
