Toronto Maple Leafs Sign Max Pacioretty, Steven Lorentz to One-Year Deals, Extend Cade Webber
The Toronto Maple Leafs made headlines by signing two forwards, Max Pacioretty and Steven Lorentz, to one-year contracts, while also extending defenseman Cade Webber. This trio adds depth to the team, with Pacioretty, a veteran, looking to bounce back from injuries and regain his scoring touch.
Pacioretty, 35, agreed to a one-year contract worth $873,770, with performance bonuses that could raise his earnings by another $626,230. Despite his recent injury struggles, including two Achilles tendon tears, Pacioretty has shown flashes of his old self. During preseason, he notched two goals and five points in four games with the Leafs. Last season with the Washington Capitals, he played 47 games, tallying four goals and 23 points. Known for his scoring ability, Pacioretty has an impressive career, with 330 goals and 668 points over 902 games across stints with the Montreal Canadiens, Vegas Golden Knights, Carolina Hurricanes, and Capitals. While health remains a concern, his presence brings experience and leadership, especially as Toronto aims to bolster its lineup.

Steven Lorentz, 28, also secured a one-year deal for $775,000. A 6-foot-4 forward, Lorentz is coming off a solid season with the Florida Panthers, where he played 38 games and contributed one goal and three points. However, his impact was felt more in the playoffs, where he added two goals and three points in 16 games, helping the Panthers win their first-ever Stanley Cup. Lorentz, who joined Toronto on a professional tryout, will likely find himself in a fourth-line role, bringing grit and championship experience to the Leafs’ lineup.
Cade Webber, a 23-year-old defenseman, earned a two-year contract extension with an annual average value of $825,000, starting in the 2025-26 season. Acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes, Webber has yet to make his NHL debut but impressed during his time at Boston University. Known for his strong defensive play, Webber will continue to develop in the AHL for now but remains a promising addition to the Leafs’ blue line in the future.
Toronto's latest signings demonstrate their commitment to adding experience and depth as they gear up for the upcoming NHL season.
