Valve to Launch Steam Deck in Australia With OLED and LCD Models in November
Great news for Australian gamers—Valve is finally bringing the Steam Deck to Australia, and it’s happening in just a matter of weeks! After more than two years of anticipation, Australians will be able to officially purchase Valve’s handheld gaming PC for the first time in November 2024. The Steam Deck, which has already made its mark in markets like Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, is finally heading down under.
So, what can Australian gamers expect? The Steam Deck will be available in both the original LCD and the newer OLED versions, giving buyers a couple of solid options depending on their needs and budgets. The original 256GB LCD model will be priced at AUD $649, while the more advanced OLED models, which come in 512GB and 1TB versions, will be available for AUD $899 and AUD $1,049, respectively.

If you can afford it, the OLED model is definitely worth considering. Although it comes with a steeper price tag, it also offers some significant upgrades over the original version—think better battery life, a sharper display, and overall enhanced performance. In fact, many reviewers and tech experts recommend going for the OLED model due to its superior features, even though it costs a bit more.
Now, you might be wondering, is Valve planning to release an even better or faster Steam Deck soon? Well, Valve has indicated that we probably shouldn’t expect a major hardware upgrade for a few more years. While there are other handheld gaming devices on the market, like the Asus ROG Ally X, which boasts slightly better performance in certain areas, the Steam Deck remains unmatched in terms of ease of use, especially for those who want to dive straight into their Steam library with minimal hassle.
For those who can’t wait to get their hands on the Steam Deck, Valve will be showcasing the device at PAX Australia in Melbourne, where attendees can try it out firsthand. With the arrival of the Steam Deck, it looks like handheld gaming is about to take off in Australia!
