Billy Zane, best known for his roles in iconic films like Titanic , is set to star in the upcoming biopic Waltzing with Brando , where he portrays none other than the legendary Marlon Brando. In the film, Zane takes on the daunting task of embodying Brando’s larger-than-life persona, showcasing his transformation into the famous actor. The film is set to explore Brando’s remarkable career, including his portrayal of unforgettable characters such as Vito Corleone in The Godfather and Paul in Last Tango in Paris .
In the first-look images released for the biopic, Zane looks almost uncannily similar to the late Brando, donning a tuxedo, a red rose boutonniere, and the trademark slim mustache of Vito Corleone. His hair is slicked back perfectly, and he even adopts Brando’s distinct posture and mannerisms. The resemblance is so striking that it’s hard to believe it’s not actually Brando himself. Zane doesn’t just look the part—he also nails the essence of Brando's raspy voice, as seen in the trailer for the movie where Zane recites one of the most famous lines from The Godfather : "Why did you go to the police? Why didn’t you come to me first?"
The film Waltzing with Brando not only focuses on Brando's cinematic career but also delves into a unique part of his life that few people know about. It highlights his collaboration with architect Bernard Judge to create a sustainable retreat on a secluded island in Tahiti, which became a sanctuary for the actor away from the spotlight. This aspect of Brando’s life provides a fascinating backdrop for the film, as it portrays the actor in a more personal and introspective light. The film is based on Judge’s memoir, Waltzing with Brando , recounting the time he spent with the actor on this Tahitian getaway. Jon Heder plays Bernard Judge, bringing another layer of intrigue to the storyline.
Filming took place on the very island where Brando and Judge built their retreat, adding an authentic touch to the production. Zane, whose portrayal of Brando has been praised by the film’s artistic director, Giulio Base, has garnered attention for his dedication to the role. Base even described Zane as “possessed by Marlon Brando,” a testament to how deeply Zane has immersed himself in this complex and iconic character.
The movie is already generating buzz ahead of its premiere, which is slated for the closing night of the Torino Film Festival in Italy. Waltzing with Brando is set to hit theaters in 2025, and fans are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to witness Zane’s masterful transformation into one of the greatest actors of all time.
