Chase Oliver: Libertarian Presidential Candidate on 2024 Ballots Alongside Major Contenders
As the 2024 U.S. presidential election looms, voters may notice a new name on their ballots alongside well-known figures like Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump: Chase Oliver, the Libertarian Party's candidate for president. At just 39 years old, Oliver has been actively championing the principles of individual liberty and government restraint, gaining attention for his bold stance against the growing power of the state.
Oliver’s political journey began as a passionate activist. His opposition to the Iraq War sparked his initial political involvement, and by 2010, after an eye-opening experience at the Atlanta Pride Festival, he found his political home with the Libertarian Party. Since then, he has been vocal in advocating for the rights of individuals, standing firmly against government overreach. In 2023, a local newspaper described him as a "pro-gun, pro-police reform, pro-choice Libertarian" who is also "armed and gay." Oliver's message resonates with those seeking a fresh voice that breaks free from the repetitive rhetoric of the major political parties.

Oliver's candidacy is a direct challenge to the two-party dominance in U.S. elections. He is known for his sharp criticism of both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, claiming that both candidates represent the same tired "old-party machine" that has been spouting the same divisive rhetoric for years. At a meet-and-greet with Iowa Libertarians in 2023, Oliver expressed his confidence, saying that a "39-year-old Libertarian" would provide a stark contrast to the two 80-year-olds at the top of the Democratic and Republican tickets. His message appeals to those frustrated with the partisan divide and looking for an alternative that focuses on personal freedom, limited government, and transparency.
Before his presidential bid, Oliver had already made his mark in Georgia politics. In 2020, he ran for Congress in Georgia’s 5th district, which had previously been held by the late civil rights leader John Lewis. While he didn’t win, his 2020 congressional run and his subsequent candidacy in Georgia's 2022 Senate race earned him attention as a rising figure in state politics. His efforts in the Senate race are credited with pushing the election into a runoff between incumbent Raphael Warnock and challenger Herschel Walker.
For the 2024 election, Oliver and his running mate, Mike ter Maat, will appear on ballots in 47 states. While they will not be on the ballot in New York, Illinois, or Tennessee, they are available as official write-in candidates in these states, ensuring that voters across the country have the opportunity to cast their vote for the Libertarian ticket.
Chase Oliver’s campaign is positioned as a bold statement against the political status quo. As more and more Americans look for candidates who represent their values outside of the major political parties, Oliver’s visibility on the 2024 ballot offers a compelling choice for voters seeking change. Whether or not he can disrupt the two-party system remains to be seen, but his presence on the ballot signals a growing interest in Libertarian ideas and a desire for a different kind of leadership.
