Childish Gambino Cancels 2025 Australian Tour Due to Health Recovery
In unfortunate news for music fans, Childish Gambino, the stage name of Donald Glover, has announced the cancellation of his highly anticipated The New World Tour dates in Australia and New Zealand. This decision comes as Glover continues to recover from a health issue that required surgery earlier this year.
Originally set to kick off in Auckland on January 28, 2025, before heading to major Australian cities like Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth, the tour was expected to be a spectacular farewell under his Childish Gambino moniker. The excitement had been building among fans, especially since this tour would mark Glover’s return to the region after several years, but the artist has emphasized that his recovery must take precedence.

In a statement sent to ticket holders, Glover expressed his regret, writing:
“Unfortunately, my path to recovery is taking longer than expected. The upcoming concerts in Australia and New Zealand are cancelled. One of the last things I’d ever want to do is disappoint my fans. I really appreciate the support you have shown and know that I will do what I can to give you an exceptional experience when the time is right. Thank you.”
The cancellation follows a similar decision to halt the North American, UK, and European legs of the tour after Glover experienced health complications following a performance in New Orleans. A subsequent hospital visit in Houston revealed the need for surgery and significant rest. At the time, Glover candidly shared that his health required serious attention, and he could not continue performing at the pace required.
For those who purchased tickets to the now-canceled shows, refunds will be processed automatically via Ticketek for online purchases. Customers who bought tickets at physical locations or through gift vouchers will need to contact Ticketek by December 20, 2024, to claim their refunds.
While the news is disappointing, Glover’s decision highlights the importance of prioritizing health and well-being. Fans can take comfort in his assurance that he will return when the time is right to deliver an unforgettable experience. Until then, the global music community sends its best wishes for his recovery.
