Controversy Surrounds Tim Sheehy’s War Injury Claims in Senate Race
In the heat of the 2024 Senate race in Montana, Republican candidate Tim Sheehy is facing intense scrutiny over his claims of being shot in combat. In a recent interview with former Fox News host Megyn Kelly, Sheehy admitted that there are no medical records to substantiate his assertion that he sustained a bullet wound during his military service in Afghanistan. This revelation comes amid conflicting accounts regarding an incident from 2015 when he allegedly shot himself while hiking in Glacier National Park.
Sheehy, a former Navy SEAL, has maintained that he was shot in the arm during his military service. However, he has also faced allegations from a park ranger who claims that Sheehy accidentally shot himself in the arm at the national park, leading to a fine for discharging a firearm illegally. According to the ranger, who has been identified as a registered Democrat, Sheehy sought medical attention after the incident, during which he stated that he accidentally shot himself. Sheehy, on the other hand, insists that he was never hit by gunfire that day. Instead, he claims he fell while hiking, causing his gun to discharge, and that he went to the hospital to check on a bullet already lodged in his arm from his time in Afghanistan.

During the interview, Kelly pressed Sheehy on the lack of medical records to support his story. She questioned whether he had ever shot himself, to which he replied, “No, that was never the allegation.” Sheehy contended that the bullet wound was a result of friendly fire during his service, which he allegedly chose not to report to avoid complicating matters for his fellow service members. Despite his efforts to clarify, Kelly expressed confusion over the details, highlighting how the narrative surrounding the injury remains convoluted for voters.
