Delta and Shake Shack: A First-Class Burger Experience in the Sky
If you're a fan of Shake Shack's famous cheeseburgers, you may soon have a reason to book a flight with Delta Air Lines. Starting December 1, Delta will offer these mouthwatering burgers in the sky, but there's a catch: this exclusive in-flight experience will be available only for first-class passengers on specific routes. So, if you're flying out of Boston and heading to destinations like Atlanta, Dallas, or San Francisco, you can soon indulge in a Shake Shack cheeseburger while cruising at 30,000 feet.
The partnership between Delta and Shake Shack is set to elevate the airline’s in-flight dining options, offering a gourmet burger experience that travelers typically can't find on planes. Shake Shack's burger features a 100% Angus beef patty, melted cheese, and a freshly toasted potato bun, topped with all the classic additions—lettuce, tomato, and ShackSauce. Plus, the meal comes complete with chips, a Caesar salad, and a decadent dark chocolate brownie, making for a satisfying and indulgent meal on your flight.

But there's a catch: these burgers aren't available to everyone. To enjoy this exclusive meal, passengers need to be seated in first class, and the flight must be longer than 900 miles. Additionally, customers must pre-select their meal option via Delta’s app or website between seven days and 24 hours before departure. This ensures that only a select group of travelers can indulge in the Shake Shack experience.
While the partnership may be limited to flights departing from Boston initially, Delta has plans to expand this offering to additional U.S. markets throughout 2025. For now, though, first-class passengers on longer routes can enjoy a burger that’s hard to beat in terms of comfort food.
The Shake Shack offering marks an exciting step forward in Delta’s ongoing efforts to improve its onboard experience, especially when it comes to dining. Airlines have long struggled with food quality, but over the past few years, there has been a shift toward more premium and gourmet options, especially for business and first-class travelers. This move to serve Shake Shack on select flights reflects the growing trend of airlines collaborating with top-tier restaurants and food brands to enhance their customer experience.
However, not everyone is convinced that a Shake Shack burger will maintain its deliciousness once it’s reheated at altitude. As with any fast food, the challenge of keeping it fresh and flavorful in-flight remains. Experts point out that while the burgers should hold up well, the real test will be how well the burger retains its quality during the flight, especially since reheating in the galley can affect the texture of the bun and cheese. To mitigate some of these potential issues, Delta is offering chips instead of fries, which are notoriously difficult to reheat properly on a plane.
Despite these challenges, the introduction of Shake Shack’s cheeseburgers in the sky is sure to generate excitement among frequent travelers and burger enthusiasts alike. Whether it will become a permanent feature of Delta’s first-class experience is yet to be seen, but it’s clear that airlines are increasingly focusing on enhancing their culinary offerings, making air travel a bit more enjoyable for those lucky enough to sit at the front of the plane.
