Osmond's journey back to Joseph began when Andrew Lloyd Webber approached him backstage a few years ago. "He asked if I’d ever consider playing Pharaoh," Osmond shared. "I told him I would if the timing was right." This year, the stars aligned, and Osmond embraced the opportunity to bring his flamboyant flair to the over-the-top role. "I’m taking Pharaoh to the next level," he teased. "Audiences better be ready for some hysteria—and maybe a touch of tartan!"
Edinburgh holds a special place in Osmond’s heart. The city hosted the musical’s first professional premiere in 1972, the same year Osmond topped the charts with his solo hit, Puppy Love . "Scotland means so much to me," he said, recalling how Glasgow once provided a secret entry point into the UK when fan hysteria at Heathrow grounded The Osmonds. "The Scottish fans have always been incredible."
Beyond his performances from December 3 to 29, Osmond is embracing Scottish culture with plans to celebrate Hogmanay and perhaps don his kilt for the occasion. His connection to Scotland runs deep—he and his wife, Debbie, share Scottish ancestry, and one of their sons spent two years on a mission in the region.
Reflecting on his remarkable six-decade career, Osmond said he’s enjoying this chapter more than ever. From his teenage stardom during Osmondmania to his award-winning Las Vegas residency, his passion for performing remains undiminished. "Showbiz is my drug of choice," he confessed. "The energy from the audience fuels me, and I can’t wait to create more magical memories in Scotland."
Tickets for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Edinburgh Playhouse are available now, promising fans an unforgettable blend of nostalgia and fresh excitement.
