Former WWE Star Raven on Why He No Longer Watches Wrestling
Raven, a former WWE and ECW legend, recently shared why he no longer watches wrestling, despite his extensive and impactful career in the industry. Raven, also known as Scott Levy, is well-remembered as one of the most innovative and compelling figures in wrestling during the '90s, particularly for his work with ECW and WWE. However, as he explained on the "Busted Open Radio" podcast, his interest in watching wrestling has waned over the years, even though he’s still active at times and was inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame in 2022.
In the interview, Raven spoke candidly about how his career has influenced his current disinterest in wrestling as a viewer. He said, “If I watch it, I’m gonna wanna do it,” suggesting that watching wrestling makes him nostalgic, tempting him to return to the ring. However, he admits that he's done everything he set out to do in his 30-plus years in the industry. To Raven, much of what he sees in wrestling today feels repetitive, and he finds little appeal in re-experiencing what he’s already accomplished. Reflecting on his contributions, he emphasized that he's been involved in some of wrestling's best moments, which makes watching today’s content less exciting.

Raven also shared his thoughts on the current quality of wrestling, which he finds inconsistent. He remarked that wrestling now often includes “ten minutes of good stuff and an hour-and-a-half of crap,” explaining that, for him, the essence of wrestling has changed. His high standards for wrestling were forged during an era when he and his peers were constantly pushing boundaries. Now, he feels that the industry sometimes lacks that intensity, and he doesn’t find the same thrill in what he sees today. Even when he attends events, he’s more inclined to socialize than to watch the matches.
An interesting aspect of Raven’s reflection is his loyalty to wrestling's history and artistry. He admitted that if he were to watch matches closely, he might be inclined to criticize or, as he put it, “bury” the performers for what he perceives as errors or shortcuts, leading to unnecessary conflicts within the community. Raven still holds a deep respect for wrestling, yet he feels that the business is often not held to the standards it deserves, which further solidifies his decision to distance himself from being a spectator.
Ultimately, Raven’s comments reflect a mix of nostalgia, pride, and high standards that stem from his years in the industry. While his career may still take him to events or occasional matches, his passion for watching wrestling seems to have faded.
