Haines City CRA Offers Free Home Renovations for Qualified Residents
The Haines City Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) has launched an impactful Residential Rehabilitation Grant Program aimed at supporting homeowners who need essential home renovations but lack the financial resources. This initiative is a great opportunity for qualifying residents to improve their living conditions at no cost, thanks to a significant $3 million budget allocation from the CRA.
One resident benefiting from this program is Claretta Simpson, who lives in the same house her grandparents built in 1950. Over the years, she has managed only minor repairs to keep the house standing, patching up leaks and other small issues. With the new CRA program, however, she and other eligible residents can now receive major repairs that would otherwise be beyond their reach. For Simpson, this program means no longer having to worry about a leaking roof and, for the first time, having a central heating system to keep her home warm.

The CRA’s program offers homeowners grants of up to $50,000 to cover crucial repairs, from roof replacements and electrical updates to ADA accessibility improvements. Eligible applicants must live within specific CRA boundaries and meet the income requirements. This program doesn’t just address individual needs; it’s a boost for the whole community. According to Jane Murphy, the Haines City CRA Manager, these repairs enhance property values, improve safety, and uplift community pride.
Another resident, Sonya Rivera, applied to have her home’s deteriorating windows and doors replaced. She described the relief of knowing her aging home could finally get the needed repairs, helping her to feel safer and more comfortable. The CRA’s efforts reflect a broader commitment to revitalizing Haines City neighborhoods by supporting residents in maintaining their homes.
This program has already received a high level of interest, with close to 60 applications submitted within the first two weeks.
