Heavy Rain and Gusty Winds Set to Soak Thunder Bay This Week
Thunder Bay residents, get your rain gear ready! After an unusually dry autumn, the city is gearing up for a significant weather shift. Environment Canada forecasts heavy rainfall and gusty winds starting early Tuesday, with precipitation totals expected to reach 35 to 50 millimeters by the day's end. Rainfall will begin before morning and persist throughout the day, sometimes intensifying into heavy downpours. Adding to the wet conditions, wind gusts are projected to range from 30 to 60 km/h.
The rainy spell doesn’t stop there. Showers may linger into Wednesday and possibly Thursday, marking a soggy start to the week. Tuesday night will see the rain taper off to a 40% chance of drizzle, with winds shifting from the southeast to the southwest, maintaining gusts up to 50 km/h.

This stormy weather follows a mild and relatively calm Monday evening, where temperatures hovered around 5.5°C under partly cloudy skies. However, the barometric pressure dropped steadily, signaling the incoming change. Humidity remains high at 90%, creating an environment ripe for the anticipated rainfall.
By Wednesday, Thunder Bay can expect a mix of sun and clouds with a continued 60% chance of showers. Temperatures will begin to cool, peaking at 5°C. Overnight, the possibility of rain or even flurries arises as the mercury dips below freezing to -1°C.
While the rain brings much-needed moisture after a dry season, it also calls for preparedness. Drivers should exercise caution as wet and windy conditions could impact visibility and road safety. Meanwhile, outdoor enthusiasts may need to revise their plans to accommodate the unpredictable weather.
As the week progresses, temperatures will gradually cool, ushering in more seasonal weather conditions. Stay tuned to local updates to ensure you’re ready for whatever nature has in store!
