Martha Stewart Slams Netflix Documentary for Misrepresenting Her Life
Martha Stewart, the iconic businesswoman and television personality, recently expressed her disappointment with a new Netflix documentary about her life titled "Martha." Although she cooperated with the film's director, R.J. Cutler, giving him total access to her life and archives, she feels the final product fails to accurately portray her narrative. In an interview with The New York Times, Stewart critiqued the film’s focus, particularly highlighting that it emphasizes her infamous 2004 trial over other significant aspects of her life and career.
Stewart, now 83, criticized the documentary for its unflattering cinematography and "lousy" music choices, stating that the film failed to capture the essence of who she is. She was particularly upset with a segment that depicted her walking in her garden, looking frail and hunched. “Those last scenes with me looking like a lonely old lady?” she remarked, “I told him to get rid of those. And he refused.” Stewart explained that her appearance in that scene was influenced by a ruptured Achilles tendon, which she felt was not adequately addressed in the film.
