Packers' Strong Ground Game Dominates First-Quarter TD Drive in Thanksgiving Win
During the Green Bay Packers' 30-17 Thanksgiving night victory over the Miami Dolphins, the Packers’ offense delivered a statement with a dominating first-quarter drive. This touchdown-scoring march wasn’t defined by flashy passing plays but by consistent, powerful runs and key receptions from tight end Tucker Kraft.
Starting at their own 24-yard line, the Packers embarked on a 12-play, 76-yard drive that set the tone for the rest of the game. The drive began with a 9-yard completion from quarterback Jordan Love to Kraft, which got the Packers into a good rhythm early. The offense then relied on running back Josh Jacobs to keep the chains moving, first with a 2-yard run to gain a first down and then a 7-yard carry to set up a third-and-short situation. On that critical third-down play, Love connected with Kraft again for a 17-yard gain, which pushed the Packers into Dolphins' territory at the 41-yard line. From there, it was all about grinding out yards on the ground.

Jacobs continued to prove his worth, running the ball three times in a row for a total of 14 yards. Then, in came running back Emanuel Wilson, who added five more yards to put the Packers in a favorable position. On third-and-4 at the Miami 22-yard line, Wilson took another handoff and nearly broke free, getting tripped up after a 15-yard gain, setting the Packers up with first-and-goal at the 7-yard line.
Once they were in the red zone, Jacobs took control, carrying the ball down to the 1-yard line before punching it in for a touchdown to give Green Bay a 14-0 lead with less than a minute remaining in the first quarter.
This drive was a perfect display of the Packers' commitment to controlling the line of scrimmage. While wide receivers were not needed to make a catch during the march, the offensive line, Jacobs, and Wilson made sure to eat up clock and grind down the Dolphins' defense. As the Packers continued to assert their dominance on the ground, they were able to put up an impressive first-quarter score without relying on the typical passing game.
