Queen Camilla Takes Time Off Due to Chest Infection
In recent news, Queen Camilla has had to cancel several scheduled engagements due to a chest infection, as announced by Buckingham Palace. The Queen, who is 77 years old, returned to the UK just last week after a royal tour in Australia and Samoa, where she and King Charles attended multiple events, sometimes in challenging weather conditions. The Queen’s health took a turn, prompting doctors to recommend a short period of rest at home. Despite her current situation, the Palace has expressed hope that she will recover in time for this weekend’s Remembrance events.
Among the engagements the Queen will miss is the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey, a significant event where memorials are laid for those who have lost their lives in military service. The Duchess of Gloucester will represent her at this event. Additionally, the Queen will not attend a reception at Buckingham Palace for Olympic and Paralympic athletes, an event that King Charles will host.

A spokesperson from Buckingham Palace stated, “Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest. With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week, but she very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as normal.” The Queen has expressed her apologies to those affected by her absence, acknowledging the disappointment it may cause.
This health setback comes shortly after a demanding ten-day royal tour, during which Queen Camilla and King Charles completed numerous engagements, demonstrating their commitment to royal duties. During the tour, they participated in various cultural ceremonies, including an 'Ava ceremony' in Samoa, where the couple endured heavy rain. The journey home included a stop at an Indian wellness retreat, likely in hopes of rejuvenation after a hectic schedule.
The upcoming Remembrance events, which include a commemorative service at the Cenotaph in Whitehall on Sunday, hold significant importance for the royal family and the nation. There are hopes that Queen Camilla will be able to attend these solemn ceremonies, as they provide an opportunity for reflection and respect towards those who have served.
In light of King Charles’s own health challenges earlier this year, this news is a poignant reminder of the importance of health and well-being within the royal family. As the Queen focuses on her recovery, many will be watching to see if she can join her family in honoring the sacrifices made by armed forces personnel this weekend. The royal family's involvement in such events underscores their ongoing commitment to support and honor the nation's heroes, and Queen Camilla's presence is always a highlight of these occasions. For now, we wish her a swift recovery and look forward to seeing her back in action soon.
